The Story Behind The Song
“Blues at Area 52”

Music performed in a secluded landscaped get away, somewhere east of Lake Mohave and Laughlin on interstate 40 but west of Kingman is a little known place called Golden Valley. Anyway, I say “little known” in reference to my geographic knowledge.
Ok, so I find myself invited to play music with a collection of local talent that was amazing to me. “How in the world does anyone find anyone out here” I’m thinking? The place is so secluded and so spread out that you literally can’t see your neighbors homes because they are so far away and distanced from one another. “How do quality musicians find each other here? Who’d Da Thunk?”. That I would land in the perfect place, with the perfect people, and the best vibe, to share an afternoon of unrehearsed with no planned itinerary of material, to share the language of music together. And that last sentence says it all. What a blast!

Golden Valley, Arizona has some great residents there, and the kind of which, I will always remember with the greatest of appreciation. Some darn good musician man, well I’ll be damned, I better practice more in case there’s a next time… I wouldn’t want to miss another possible invite.
Oh ya, in case you Arizona men see this little description, please, I want to sincerely thank you guys for such a great day… Again I say “What a Blast”

All that being said, and like it or not, correct map location or not, I titled this little ditty “Blues at Area 52” by the Mohave Blues Commandos.

What do we have on deck next?

We have our New Year’s Eve annual Gala on the books for 12/31/2019 in Crestline, CA.
This night will feature two new members of the O’Briens Edge musical family, Rudy Arevalo on drums and John Murphy on bass guitar. Both men are Crestline, California residents who accompany Shane O’Brien as he lets his musical ideas flow outward to all available ears to hear. Rudy and John are new to this genre of storytelling Acoustic, Acid, Rock, Blues that comes right from the heart

  1. How did I miss this??? I have been stuck in Las Vegas and missing my hometown San Pedro ever since we moved here (not just desert vs. ocean, of course!).
I miss your music and that of Eddie and Field and Les, etc. I miss the friendships I had there and the food in San Pedro’s cafes, restaurants, and bars (Pacific Diner and the LIghthouse Deli come to mind for example, as well as many others but especially The Whale and Ale!)
So I just read your blog blurb about driving for Instacart and the experience you had bumping rolls with a fellow biker dude in the mountains. I grinned so hugely the entire time I read that story my face hurts (my brothers would interject: “Your face hurts? Well it hurts me too! HA HA”).
Shane, thank you so much for sharing everything you write and for making me smile when I read it all. Especially thanks for the amazing way you play that guitar. Your stage presence compares closely to Bruno Mars as far as this old lady is concerned, and my friends here would agree. One of these days you’ll be here in Vegas and hopefully, you ‘ll look me up so we can go to the Sand Dollar where my friend Art plays with The Moanin’ Blacksnakes. They’re an amazing blues band whose lead singer and guitar player Scottie beat throat cancer -- and is now singing and playing lead again. (Take that Cancer, you beast! HA!)
I hope you’re doing well and loving the mountains as much as I do. There’s nothing like walking through a forest or seeing where and how far a creek will take you if you follow its path.
Take care, keep on keeping on

Tell me that I don’t read my messages late. I concur with each and every point you have described about Pedro>
As well I’m glad to be aware of a musician has beat Cancer. If you can believe it, I’m still doing everything music than will allow
Senior Citizen Musicians on their Bandstands. Here’s a bit of noteworthy news to share that is current. I’m booked to play thr Roxy Theater on the first day of December, 2024. Trippy huh, and here’s something else that is great about that booking. The Roxy is not handing me 500 tickets to sell in advance. Most everytime, that’s what Bands have to do for a booking a Gig at the likes like the Roxy, the whiskey, House of Blues ect. Never was handed that responsibility for the three tines we played at the Whiskey. Just saying that that is a cool thing.
Better late than never, in regards to a reply from me. Yikes… I hope you and yours are well.
      Be Well
